Down to Earth is a not-for-profit organization that works across South Wales engaging with hard-to-reach groups from a wide range of backgrounds. We engage with groups using the medium of sustainable construction, natural land, and woodland management to help develop confidence, education, employability skills and wellbeing for the individuals within these groups. These programs will be very much focused on the development of a 14-acer meadow and woodland site that will include sustainable buildings, at University Llandough Hospital. With a vision to create a natural space that can be used in the long term by the staff, patients, and members of the public for the benefit of wellbeing and recovery. Being an active part of building self-sustainable and ecofriendly buildings as well as developing the natural environment around the site gives a real sense of ownership and empowerment to all involved in the project. Throughout the course of the program, they will have opportunities to gain accreditation with Agored Cymru in a relevant unit (H&S or construction focused) as well as gaining a skill set of specific and transferable skills that can be used in a much wider context outside of the course itself.
